Kelso's Makenna Vegh makes a grab in the early minutes against R.A. Long

Joshua Hart, The Daily News

Three Rivers' Christian's Makenna Vegh, who competes for Kelso in soccer and wrestling, signed her letter of intent on Wednesday to play soccer for NCAA Division II Northwest Nazerene University.

Vegh is one of the area's best goalkeepers, helping the Lassies to a bi-district tournament appearance while maintaining a 1.11 goals per game average. Her 20 goals allowed was the fewest by any Greater St. Helens 3A League team.

Vegh signed with NNU, a Great Northwest Athletic Conference School, because "she loved the atmosphere of the school and was so impressed with the coaching staff and women's soccer team," a news release from TRC said.

Vegh was a two-time all-league selection at goalkeeper for the Lassies.

The Crusaders come off an 11-7 season, in which they fell to GNAC champ Concordia in the GNAC Tournament.

Scotties place 11 wrestlers on first team

Second-team picks included Kelso's Jacob Fowler (120), Blake Fowler (182), and David Perry (220).

Joel Denman of Mountain View was named the league's Coach of the Year.

Kaino named to second team

Ilwaco's Alex Kaino, who averaged 9.7 points including a high of 25 against Raymond, was named to the all-Pacific 2B League second team in boys' basketball after a vote of the league's coaches.

Donnelle Irwin and Omari Maulana of Chief Leschi were named the league's co-MVPs, and Jay Pearson of Willapa Valley was selected Coach of the Year. South Bend received the league's Sportsmanship award.
