The Inspectorate of the Constabulary (IOC), the arm of the police force that enforces standards, is probing an incident in which a man was videotaped entering into a patrol car and removing a police-issued bullet proof vest and hat.
There are reports, too, that acting Police Commissioner Clifford Blake has ordered that a police corporal be sent on leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.
According to law enforcement sources, the incident happened in August Town, St Andrew, which has seen a flare-up of violence in recent weeks.
In the 30-second video, which is being circulated on social media, the man is seen laughing with onlookers as he puts on the ballistic vest and hat.
"Tek a video dawg," the man says, still laughing.

He then posed for the camera before hurriedly removing the equipment and running off.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Assan Thompson, who heads the IOC, said he is aware of the video and confirmed that his division has commenced a probe with a view to taking the appropriate action at the end of the day.
"But an investigation will determine if a breach has been committed," said Thompson.
He explained that his investigators will be looking to determine "what procedures may have been breached."
