BAYONNE -- The firehouse at the corner of 57th Street and Avenue B will be closed for approximately six months while it undergoes a two-phase renovation, city officials said.
The fire station, which was built in 1927, will undergo two phases of rehab. During the next four months, the building will receive new windows, improved interior lighting, and repairs to the exterior masonry.
Three Sons Restoration will be the contractor for this first phase of renovations.
The second phase includes replacing the fire apparatus floor. A contractor for the second phase will be selected subsequently, officials said.
Engine Company 6, Ladder Company 3, and the Hazardous Materials Unit (Haz-Mat) have been relocated to Bayonne's newest fire station, which is located near Route 440 on the western edge of the former Military Ocean Terminal, on a temporary basis.
