Senior duo leads Ravenscroft to victory over Voyager Academy

Posted 11:14 p.m. yesterday

— Seniors Chris Barnette and Jack Hemphill combined for 44 points to lead Ravenscroft past Voyager Academy, 82-61, Wednesday night in the Ravens’ penultimate contest of the regular season.

Barnette and Hemphill led all scorers with 22 points apiece in the win.

Ravenscroft showed it was no match for Voyager early in the contest after staring the game on a 22-12 run, spearheaded by junior Jake Vanderheijden.

The sharp-shooting junior drained three of his game-high five three-pointers in the first half and finished the contest with 19 points.

Voyager senior Jordan Love caught fire in the second frame and tallied 10 of his team-high 21 points. But despite Love’s big quarter, the Vikings trailed by 14 points at halftime.

Ravenscroft pulled away quickly in the third frame with a big 22-9 run over the eight-minute session. Barnette scored nine and Hemphill added eight in the quarter. The senior duo and Vanderheijden each tallied on triple apiece during the run.

The Vikings won the final period, 25-19, thanks to several Ravenscroft mishaps, and the Ravens' starters getting an early exit.

Along with Love, fellow seniors Blake Buchanan and Michael Boadu also finished in double figures Wednesday night. Buchanan scored 11 points and Boadu added 10 points.

Ravenscroft (19-7, 7-0 NCISAA) will close out conference play Friday at 7:45 p.m. against Wake Christian Academy. Voyager Academy ends its regular season with an 18-6 overall record and perfect 12-0 mark in North Central Conference play.
