DeKalb man accused of pushing girlfriend from truck released on signature

SYCAMORE – A DeKalb man accused of pushing his girlfriend out of his truck while he was speeding off was ordered to be released on his signature Tuesday.

Police said in court records that Robert K. Ansteth, 41, of the 900 block of Springdale Lane, pushed her from the truck at the BP Amoco station at 515 E. Comanche Ave., Shabbona, because he was angry she was talking to another man.

The records said he first choked her and tried to push her out of the truck, at which point she struck back and tried to get out. Before she could get all the way out, he sped off, causing her to fall to the pavement.

Pretrial services recommended setting cash bond for Ansteth, but Judge Philip Montgomery said because his criminal history is so dated – his most recent conviction in 2010 – Ansteth was to be released on his signature.

Montgomery did order that before his release, Ansteth would be fitted with an electronic home monitoring bracelet, and that he be forbidden any contact with his girlfriend.

Ansteth is due back in court at 1:30 p.m. March 2.
