(Olympics) S. Korean figure skater Kim prepares birthday present for North's Ryom

GANGNEUNG, South Korea, Feb. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's pairs figure skater Kim Kyu-eun has prepared a set of cosmetics as a birthday present for her North Korean counterpart Ryom Tae-ok.

According to the photo released by Kim on Wednesday, she bought a package of facial masks, eye shadow brushes, a pair of socks and lip balm, with a set of PyeongChang Olympic mascots.

Ryom turned 19 on Friday last week.

Kim and her partner Kam Kang-chan have become friends with North Korea's Ryom and Kim Ju-sik last summer when they trained together in Canada.

The PyeongChang Winter Games will be the second event for them to skate on the same ice since then.

They competed at the Sapporo Winter Asian Games last year. At the Four Continents last month, however, the South Korean team withdrew due to a shoulder injury suffered by Kam.

They held a couple of practice sessions together at the Gangneung Ice Arena before the PyeongChang Winter Olympics kicks off Friday.
