A shoe drive in Lincoln this week and next week hopes to help vulnerable children and raise awareness for congenital heart defects.

Shoes for Miles is an organization founded by Greg and Dana Ludvik to honor their son Miles, who was born Feb. 17, 2014, and died six days later from CHDs.

The organization — which has collected 3,000 shoes in three years — will accept shoe donations at Footloose & Fancy, 4131 Pioneer Woods Drive, and Threads, 1219 P St., until Feb. 18.

Donors are asked to pair shoes — sized toddlers to teens, preferably sneakers and winter boots — in the original box or by tying laces together.

The shoes will be distributed to Foster Care Closet, which gives clothing donations to children in foster care throughout Nebraska.
