Assistant County Manager Duane Holder was named Tuesday as the interim health director during a special meeting of the Cumberland County Board of Health.

He will assume the duties immediately, according to a release from the Department of Public Health.

Deputy Health Director Rod Jenkins has served as the interim director since July 7. He asked to give up the position and return full-time to his deputy director position, the release said.

“Mr. Jenkins has done a great job for us and we are appreciative of his service while performing two jobs,” said Dr. William Philbrick, chairman of the Board of Health.

Board members adjourned into a closed session for discussion, but voted in an open session.
