Duncanville

A meeting of two state-ranked basketball teams turned ugly at one of the most revered arenas in Texas high school basketball Tuesday.

Just as the score went final on No. 6 DeSoto's 67-46 win over No. 7 Duncanville, a confrontation that involved several players broke out along one of the court's baselines at Sandra Meadows Arena.

It quickly erupted into an all-out brawl.

As seen on video tweeted by former UT Arlington basketball player Jabari Johnson, the crowd begins to scream as players in both DeSoto's blalck uniforms and Duncanville's gray uniforms take swings at one another.

"Fighting will result in a one-game suspension," the announcer says over the PA system. "Do you want to be suspended for your next game? Calm down. Go home."

Students can also be seen crying in the stands as the fight winds down.

DeSoto ISD issued the following statement Wednesday on the fight:

"DeSoto ISD does not condone the actions of the young men involved in the altercation that took place at last night's basketball game at Duncanville High School.

"DeSoto administrators are in the process of reviewing what happened. We are working with Duncanville ISD's athletics administrators in addition to UIL to determine who was involved, where discipline is applicable and what next steps are in order as a result of last night's incident."

It also said administrators from both school districts were to meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday to discuss disciplinary action independent of UIL actions.

Duncanville ISD's statement read, in part:

"The review process will identify who was involved and determine appropriate discipline. Once final, the results will be reported to the UIL. Working together with DeSoto ISD, we are also taking steps to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future."

The UIL also issued a statement:

"The UIL is aware of the altercation between the Duncanville and DeSoto boys basketball teams on Tuesday, Feb. 6. We take these matters extremely seriously and the UIL State Executive Committee will evaluate this incident for potential penalties in addition to any action taken by the schools and district executive committee. The SEC will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 13."
