The Delhi Auto Expo 2018, the country's most awaited show is up and live.
It has already thrown up cool concepts, and sizzling launches.
The Expo is expected to see launches from Maruti, Hyundai, Honda and Kia Motors. Concept cars would also be unveiled from the stables of Kia Motors, an upcoming entrant. Kia will be lifting the lids off its new SP Concept SUV.
Here is a list of the top vehicles on display from the Delhi Auto Expo.
Burgman Street 125:
The engine is similar to the Suzuki Access 125, but expect cosmetic changes on the digital front such as a LED headlight, tail light, a central lock system, a 12V charging socket, a USB port as well as a digital console. Suzuki would also be launching another model- Suzuki GSX S750 and Intruder FI.
Engine Dynamics:
The Burgman already launched in the UK has a weight of 162 kilos, with an output of 10.85 BHP.
Price:
Estimated on-road price, ex-showroom Delhi is expected to go up to Rs 65000.
Honda CRV
The new Honda CR-V is into its fifth generation and boasts a new diesel engine.
You also get a revised wheel drive, along with improvisations on the aesthetic front - LED headlamps, LED taillamps, and newer alloy wheels to be precise.
Folks at Honda have suggested that the car would throw up fresh interiors with a spacious cabin space. Engine Dynamics:
The petrol engine comes in two varieties.
The 2.0 litre 2WD engine throws a 1997 cc displacement at a fuel economy of 13.7 kmpl.
The 2.4L engine throws a punch with 2354 cc, with a fuel economy of 12 kmpl.
Price:
The top petrol variant retails at Rs 27.1 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi price, while the two-litre variant with two-wheel drive is available at Rs 24.79 lakhs.
Hyundai i20 Elite:
There is already an elite model of the i20 in the markets. The makers would probably come out with a new name.
A look at the pics and the biggest question that everyone will possibly come up with is- "what has really changed"
Well, this is a facelift, meaning, Hyundai might retain the components, while making cosmetic changes.
A top head at Hyundai was also quoted as saying that the company may plan to re-launch the Santro model.
Engine Dynamics:
Expect the 1.2-litre petrol, 1.4-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines on the i20. The current Hyundai models at he petrol engines are rated at 82 BHP and 99 BHP respectively, while the diesel makes 89 BHP and 220 Nm of peak torque.
Price: To give you a comparison, the current elite i20 Sports with the 1.4 litre 1396 cc engine sells at Rs 7.74 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki Concept-S
Codenamed Future-S, Maruti-Suzuki has been teasing social media and creating a new buzz. The Concept houses headlamps on either side of a central grill. Purists found that the front grille theme may have been taken from Ignis. But designers at Suzuki have further tweaked the square headlamps from the Ignis, and placed sleeker looking headlights on the new Concept.
For those of you thinking that the design resembles that of Renault's lineage of Kuv 100, Maruti Suzuki just confirmed that drivers will get a upright stance experience and higher ground clearance, something similar to the Renault's and Mahindra's lineages.
Before the launch, there were rumours of the Gypsy coming back. There is no confirmation still, but we are keeping our fingers crossed. What do you think, will the Gypsy make a comeback
Engine Dynamics:
The Concept-S is expected to come on the Heartect platform, with a petrol engine at the launch. Designers are expected to follow-up with an in-house 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. Further specifications are yet to be announced.
Price:
The Future S is smaller than Maruti's current and only selling SUV model- the Vitara Brezza. It has been aimed at the segment below- likes of Renault Kwid, and other conventional hatchbacks. The price should hence be between the range of Maruti's Ignis and Brezza models. Maruti Ignis is available at a price of Rs 7.08 lakhs while Brezza's dual tone ZDI+ model sells at Rs 9.68 lakhs. A price point between Rs 7-9 lakhs at ex-showroom seems to be a sensible expectation. But then, the Concept-S is expected to be compete against the likes of KUV100, and hence may be looking at a price point in the range of Rs 4.5-7 lakhs (ex-showroom price of Kuv 100 is in that price-range).
Renuka Kirpalani posted a tweet of the 360 degree view of the Concept S car.
A 360 degree view from Maruti's stables:
Honda Amaze
Amaze will be unveiling its second generation car at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018, and based on the pics, it does seem that Honda is making an effort to put up a decent show. There is much larger focus on reviving the appeal, and focus seems to be around improving cabin space.
Engine Dynamics:
A newer engine has not yet been announced, having said that, the petrol 1.2-litre engine seems will remain on the 2018 model too. The engine comes with 88 bhp car is mated to a five-speed manual.
Price:
There is a talk that 2018 model would have a compact size, owing to GST concessions on smaller cars. Expect a price drop. The 2017 model sold in the range of Rs 7-7.37 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.
Honda Civic
This will be the tenth iteration of the Honda Civic, and expect some noise to be made around the launch. Expect the price to also appropriately hiked, with the bigger cabin space, jump in performance.
Engine Dynamics:
The diesel engine is expected to be a 1.6 liter i-DTEC all aluminium unit built from Tapukara, Rajasthan (Yes, a thumbs up for make-in-India). At 120 bhp the engine outputs 300 Nm, providing lower emissions and higher fuel efficiency. Its a powerful petrol engine, a 1.8 liter i-VTEC petrol, with about 140 Bhp.
Price:
The previous model was priced at Rs 15 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.
Hyundai's Ioniq
The lithium-ion polymer battery takes 9-10 hours to charge through regular at-home sockets. There is also a quick charging that brings charging time to 4-5 hours. The 28 kWh battery powers a 118 Bhp – 295 Nm electric motor. The Ioniq can do about 200 km in single charge. The electric motor delivers 43 hp.
Price:
Expect a price tag of Rs 20 lakhs on this beauty.
KIA Motors
A staggering 16 global models will be unveiled at the Delhi Motor Show from Kia Motors. Also on display is a wide range of electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and a range of other cars. Expect the Stinger sports sedan to be on display.
KIA's India India Managing Director and CEO, Kookhyun Shim said, "Kia Motors is thrilled to enter India, which is all set to catapult into the world's fifth largest economy this year."
Renault Trezor
This one is a 100% electric car. Renault on its website says, that the 2-seater electric coupé, is the beginning of a new cycle of concept cars and explores the styling and technology of future models. By the way, the Car was unveiled at the Paris Motor show in 2016, and bagged the most beautiful concept car award at that time.
Engine Dynamics:
The 2016 model delivered 260 kW (350 hp) and 380 Nm torque, with an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds. Two batteries with optimized geometry honeycomb-shaped front air-intakes makes this beauty replete.
Price:
The 2016 model retailed in European markets for a price of $3000000 (yes, 3 million dollars). That should perhaps give you a perspective on the price.
