DUBAI: An inebriated labourer, who ran after a schoolgirl and her grandma while palming the schoolgirl, was imprisoned for three months plus deportation on Tuesday.

The 43-year-old Asian breached the modesty of the Emirati schoolgirl, 19, on a Frij Murar street at around 12:15pm on Oct.17.2017, she and her grandma complained at the Naif Police Station.

During a hearing on Dec.19 he rebuffed the charges and asked the Criminal Court to clear him. The court on Tuesday ordered him to serve three months in the dock plus deportation.

The schoolgirl complained that she and her grandma, 50, were strolling near a place of worship when a man tapped her from behind.

“I screamed at him and started running,” she explained.

He ran after her. She ran calling upon members of the public for help. They pinned him down. The grandma said the labourer “was chasing my granddaughter while tapping on her back.”

An Emirati warrant officer, 34, said he was on patrol when he spotted a crowd running to rescue the grandma who was shouting for help.

“I helped nab the labourer. I took him to the police station and questioned about the indecent attack. He was too drunk to answer.”
