The SUV market is one of the most crowded in the automotive world at the moment. Over the past 20 years, consumers have rushed from their conventional estates and saloons into the ever-growing range of SUVs offered by pretty much every manufacturer now - even ones like Alfa Romeo and Porsche, which had previously been preoccupied with performance machines.
The SUV (sports utility vehicle) segment is now so big that we can split it up into sub-groups. Large SUVs, which tend to have seven seats, are often at the more expensive end of the market, while family SUVs come at various prices and are replacements for the estates of yesteryear. Now, even smaller SUVs are available - superminis are getting the jacked-up treatment, returning as things like the Ateca, T-Roc and CX-3.
This list is far from exhaustive. We estimate there to be around 100 SUV models currently on sale. But these are 25 that we think are notable, and worthy of consideration if you're looking to buy or lease.
