The police operation is the result of a “hoax bomb threat”, with officers shouting at people to clear the area.

In a statement, police said: “Officers have launched an investigation after a hoax bomb threat at Spencer’s Sports Bar, Regent Road, Great Yarmouth this evening (Tuesday 6 February 2018).

“Police were called at 8.21pm to reports that someone had phoned the bar and made claims there was a bomb on the premises.

“The bar and surrounding restaurants were evacuated as a precaution whilst a search was carried out by officers; however, it was established that the call was a hoax.

“Enquiries are on-going.”

Bus services were unable to serve Market Gates due to the incident.

One Twitter user wrote: “A major incident has just unfolded in Great Yarmouth Market Gates Shopping Centre.

“The entire area is affected including the bus station, and multi storey car park.

“Entire area evacuated and heavy police tape.”
