We all are aware of the following adage: Familiarity breeds contempt. At times, it takes group of outsiders to tell the locals that we reside in a town with special attraction and loads of possibilities.
One of the brilliant outcomes of a successful visit by a high-powered tourist delegation from the N3 Gateway initiative – a thrilling attempt that’s keen on promoting the bordering N3 highway of the town.
On March 2008, the N3 Gateway Tourism Association was set up. It was started by N3 Toll Concession (RF) Proprietary Limited (N3TC) and has been, till date, financed by N3TC. It’s non-profit registered company that was developed to accomplish the marketing effort of the region, as a world-class travel destination in terms of domestic and international tourists.
The N3 Gateway region extends from Pretoria in the North to the Valley of a Thousand Hills in the South, crisscrossing four provinces like KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Mpumalanga and Gauteng. With Lesotho, the region implements cross-border tourism through Phuthaditjhaba, Caledonspoort and Sani Pass and comprises the Battlefields Route up to Newcastle.
Presently, the N3 Gateway brags of 29 registered members made of Tourism Associations.
Dundee is one among them, Co-Ops, Section 21 Companies and Municipalities. The one and only private member is the N3 Toll Concession. At present, it stands for around 1500 stakeholders which in return maintain an estimated 9 000 full-time along with part-time jobs.
Dundee Tourism can profit hugely from the N3 Gateway’s strong marketing tools. The delegation got impressed by the Tourism Dundee and Talana Museum along with their assistance of Ingudlane Lodge, the Moths and local tour guides.
