Wakefield eases past Knightdale, 51-26

— Wakefield girls basketball hammered Knightdale Tuesday night, 51-26, for the Lady Wolverine’s second-straight victory.

The Wolverines have won nine of their last 10 games and remain in second place in the Northern Athletic Conference behind first-placed Heritage.

Heritage is the only team to beat Wakefield in conference play this season.

Gabby Donaldson led the way for Wakefield Tuesday night, finishing with a game-high 15 points.

Elise Williams and Camryn Jones combined for 22 points, each scoring 11 points apiece.

Wakefield jumped out to a nine-point lead after starting the contest on a 12-3 run.

The Wolverines led by 13 points at halftime and pulled away with a 14-6 run in the third period.

Knightdale had its second-most productive quarter in the fourth frame with eight points, but the Lady Knights failed to score more than nine in any quarter Tuesday night.

Nine players scored for the Knightdale, but the Knights failed to produce a double-digit scorer.

The Wolverines outscored Knightdale 24-14 over the final 16 minutes of play to cap its 18th victory of the season.

Wakefield (18-4, 7-2 Northern) will wrap up regular season play on Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Wake Forest. Knightdale (11-9, 3-5 Northern) is slated to visit Corinth Holders Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
