Marquette Township Board adopts resolution to expand DDA boundary

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - The Marquette Township Board adopted a resolution during a meeting Tuesday night to expand the Downtown Development Authority’s boundary.

The old boundary, adopted in 2007, spanned from the west end of the township to just past the Westwood Mall. These new boundaries would expand east to the Marquette city limits and add parcels including the new Meijer and nearby developmental property.

There will be four informational meetings hosted by the DDA next week.

“It’ll be the opportunity for them to ask questions, gather information, see a presentation from our planning and zoning staff and the DDA in terms of what the benefits might be, what the rationale is, what, if any, cost, and there might not be any cost,” said Marquette Township Manager Randy Girard.

These meetings will be next Tuesday, Feb. 13th, at noon at 5:30 p.m. and next Thursday, Feb. 15th, at noon and 6:30 p.m.

The final decision on the expansion will be made after a public hearing on March 20th.
