Lima man jailed after SWAT arrest

LIMA — Lima police officers, acting on a tip that a man wanted on a charge of felonious assault was believed to be inside a Harrison Avenue residence Monday evening, went to that location and attempted to serve the suspect with an arrest warrant.

The suspect, however, had other ideas. He didn’t want to leave the residence. He is now in jail.

According to Lima Police Department spokesman Jason Garlock, at approximately 7:37 p.m. Monday officers went to a residence at 124 Harrison Ave. on a tip that Lima resident Jarvis Lewis, age 29, was at the home. Lewis was wanted by police on a charge of felonious assault with a firearm.

Upon their arrival, officers reportedly observed Lewis through a window. When police knocked on the door of the home, however, all the lights inside the home went dark.

Garlock said the department’s SWAT team and crisis negotiation team were summoned to the home. After negotiations and attempts to get Lewis to exit the home broke down, SWAT team members “went in and got him,” said Garlock. Lewis was reportedly found hiding in the basement of the home. He was taken into custody without incident and was incarcerated at the Allen County Jail.

In addition to the initial charges against him, Lewis now also faces additional charges of resisting arrest and obstructing official business.
