Scottish court rejects anti-Brexit move

EDINBURGH • A Scottish court yesterday rejected a legal attempt by anti-Brexit lawmakers to ask the European Court of Justice to clarify whether Britain could unilaterally stop the Brexit process.

The judge said the application did not have a real prospect of success.

S. Africa delays State of the Nation address

CAPE TOWN • South Africa yesterday postponed its State of the Nation address, the keynote political event of the year, as the ruling African National Congress party is roiled by a battle to unseat President Jacob Zuma.

Parliamentary Speaker Baleka Mbete said a new date for the address would be announced soon.

UN probing 'chemical weapons' in Syria

GENEVA • United Nations war crimes investigators yesterday said they were investigating fresh reports that chemical weapons were being used in rebel-held zones in war-ravaged Syria.

The UN Commission of Inquiry on the human rights situation in Syria voiced alarm that it had received multiple reports that bombs allegedly containing weaponised chlorine had been used in the town of Saraqeb in Idlib and in Douma in Eastern Ghouta.
