WORTHINGTON — Twenty-nine of the 32 Worthington Middle School Million Word Club Members gathered Jan. 26 at Duffer’s/GreatLIFE for pizza buffet.

The Million Word Club includes students who have read 1 million words or more, as calculated by the Accelerated Reading (AR) Program at WMS. Students read books within their reading level and take a comprehension quiz on the book. The AR program has calculated the number of words in the book, and tracks them within the program so students can monitor words read; it does not include words students read in class from textbooks or class materials.

The Million Word Club was formed at WMS to encourage reading, and has been generously supported by Duffer’s/GreatLIFE and a Worthington Foundation grant. The club’s top reader has read 4,098,549 words this year.

Students that earned the lunch for second quarter include: Isaac Kinser, Eli Hansberger, Marco Ramos, Katherine Lopez, Marah Purdy, Isaiah Bates, Alondra Leon Flores, Landon Mimick, Sergio Granados Najera, Alanna Moore, Juicy Mi, Ayantu Uli, Mekyla Nystrom, Quentin Burns, Cindy Niz Sorto, Nicole Wede, Cadence Van Ede, Casey Salinas, Cristina Rivera, Thomas Bannor, Abigail Hibma, Marvin Batres, Brandon Arzu-Bustad, Lay Thi Paw, Angie del Carmen Hurtado Rivera, Tanner Hennings, Cadence Christian, Alexis Reum, Nakia Evans, Benjamin Schreiber, Macy Joens, Eduardo Lopez Tovar.
