In one of the major round-ups of history sheeters, 72 of them were secured by police on Outer Ring Road (ORR) where they had gathered to celebrate 50th birthday of notorious murder accused Binu on Tuesday night.
Chennai:
In the night-long operation, police teams of nearby stations chased and caught the history-sheeters who tried to flee after noticing the personnel in khaki. However, Binu managed to escape from the spot and a hunt has been launched to arrest him.
Tambaram police received a tip-off about the incident when they intercepted a vehicle and the inebriated persons inside allegedly told police that they were heading for a birthday party of a friend at Malayambakkam.
On suspicion, they followed the vehicle and alerted the police stations near Malayambakkam. The vehicle entered a truck shed off ORR where history-sheeters from across Chennai and suburbs had gathered. A cake had also been ordered for Binu, but cops entered just on time and played a spoilsport. On noticing the police, they tried to escape in all directions and some hid in the nearby villages.
Till Wednesday morning, police personnel managed to secure 72 of them and seized eight cars and 38 two wheelers and machetes. The detained accused have been taken to respective police stations for further inquiry.
