Guatemalan national pleads guilty to illegally re-entering U.S. after deportation

WORCESTER - A 31-year-old Guatemalan national pleaded guilty Monday in federal court in Worcester to illegally re-entering the United States after deportation.

Enri Nemias Vega is to be sentenced May 2. He faces up to 10 years in prison, 3 years of supervised release and a fine of as much as $250,000. He will be subject to deportation after completing his sentence. 

Mr. Vega pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful re-entry of a deported alien before U.S. District Court Judge Timothy S. Hillman.

Mr. Vega had been deported in 2012 and was encountered by law enforcement in Sutton in May 2017, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling and Michael Shea, acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston. It was determined that he was in the United States illegally, the U.S. attorney's office said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg A. Friedholm of the Worcester branch office is prosecuting the case.
