Mumbai: Police beef up security of Sonu Nigam after threats

Mumbai: The Mumbai police has stepped up the security of singer Sonu Nigam in the wake of a fresh security threat. As per the advisory, the singer can be attacked by terrorists at a public place or during a film promotion. The other personalities on the terror radar are BJP president Amit Shah and state unit leaders Ram Kadam and Ashish Shelar. The Maharashtra State Intelligence Department has accordingly issued an advisory to the Mumbai Police.
On April 16, 2016, Nigam had lashed out at “forced religiousness” after being woken up by the azaan from a nearby mosque. He had tweeted, “God bless everyone. I am not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India? And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he founded Islam. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison? I do not believe in any temple or gurdwara using electricity to wake up people who do not follow the religion. Why then? Honest? True? Gundagardi hai, bus.” Nigam had even shaved off his head in defiance of a ‘fatwa’ issued by a member of the West Bengal Minority Council, who offered to pay Rs 10 lakh as a reward to anyone who garlands him with old shoes.
