DeKALB – A DeKalb man accused of slamming his baby into his crib and breaking the child's arm was released after a Chicago woman posted $1,000 bail on his warrant.

Jermaine G. West, 22, of the 900 block of Crane Drive, is charged with aggravated battery of a child. If convicted, he will face six to 30 years in prison. The offense is not eligible for probation.

DeKalb police Cmdr. Bob Redel said West was frustrated because his 3-month-old boy was sick, and put him back in his crib too hard, causing the broken arm. He said a warrant, with a $10,000 bond attached, for West's arrest was issued Jan. 31.

West is due in court at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 14.
