I applaud the initiative to set aside some time for students to take a break and eat something to help them last till lunch time (No 'correct' timing for children's meals; Jan 29). However, it raises some health concerns, as children tend to bring unhealthy food for their breaks.
For example, my sister, who attends a primary school offering such breaks, eats snacks that are incredibly oily, and even shares them with her classmates.
Junk food can cause health issues in the long term.
Schools should hold assemblies to teach students what food items they should take to school, or provide parents with information on healthy options.
Schools can also provide healthy snacks, such as wholemeal biscuits, instead of allowing students to bring their own food. This way, parents will have peace of mind knowing their children are eating healthily in school.
