Making a jumbo splash

The Yamuna River in New Delhi may be polluted, but it did not stop this mahout from bathing his elephant there.

The keepers are usually assigned a young elephant, and both animal and man are bonded to each other throughout their lives.

Elephants in the city are fast becoming a rarity as wildlife advocates push to have the animals removed. They say Delhi is too polluted and congested for an elephant to live happily and healthily.
