MALOLOS , Philippines — The chairperson of the bids and awards committee of San Jose del Monte in Bulacan was gunned down in front of her house on Monday night.
Orpha Velasquez, 50, a resident of Barangay Fatima 2, had just alighted from her vehicle and was about to open the gate of her house at around 7:30 p.m. when five men in a white Mitsubishi Adventure and two motorcycles arrived and shot her several times.
Velasquez died while being treated in a hospital.
Superintendent Fitz Macariola, city police chief, said the motive for the killing could be work-related.
Macariola said the city government provided security to Velasquez after she received death threats last year.
In Pangasinan, charcoal maker Mario Custodio, 59, was in a cornfield in Barangay Sawat, Mangatarem when a lone gunman opened fire.
Custodio was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mangatarem District Hospital.
Twenty bullet shells for a caliber 5.56 pistol were recovered at the scene.
Probers are eyeing a love triangle as the motive for the killing.
