At least 27 persons were arrested on different charges in four districts- Gopalganj, Dinajpur, Rangamati and Habiganj, in three days.
GOPALGANJ: Police, in separate drives from Monday night till Tuesday morning, arrested 15 people from different areas of the district.
Police sources said the drives were conducted fearing sabotage on February 8 next.
Of the arrested, police detained seven from Muksudpur, six from Kotalipara and two from Sadar Upazila.
DINAJPUR: Police, in a raid, arrested four BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists with three-litre petrol, six iron rods and 15 sticks from Mahila College field in Hakimpur Upazila here early Monday.
The arrested are General Secretary of Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal Hazrat Ali, BNP activists- Mahfuz Ahmed and Mahe Alam, and Jamaat Rokon Nurul Islam.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hakimpur Police Station (PS) Abdus Sobur said about 30 to 35 BNP-Jamaat men were holding a secret meeting at the said area when police raided there and arrested four of them, but the rest fled away.
Sub-Inspector of Hakimpur PS Abdur Rakib said a case under Special Power Act was filed in this connection.
RANGAMATI: Police arrested six leaders of BNP, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Juba Dal from district BNP office on Sunday night.
The arrested are: President of district BNP Md. Shah Alam, is Publicity Secretary Abul Hossain Bali, Assistant Organising Secretary Shaheed Chowdhury, district Juba Dal President Saiful Islam Shakil, General Secretary Mohammad Ilias, and district JCD Office Secretary Mohammad Kamal Uddin.
The arrested have been kept under custody at Kotwali Police Station.
HABIGANJ: Police arrested two JCD leaders from the town on Sunday night.
The arrested are: JCD Central Committee Member and ex-Senior Joint Convener of district JCD Syed Mushfiq Ahmed and Joint General Secretary of district JCD Hafizul Islam.
Police arrested Syed Mushfiq Ahmed from Shayestanagar graveyard area and Hafizul Islam from his house at Umednagar area.
Sadar Model PS OC Md Yasinul Haque confirmed the arrest.
