Mitchell woman accused of stealing vehicle after posting about it on Facebook

Natasha Gonzalez, 30, has been charged with grand theft valued between $1,000 and $2,500, a Class 6 felony punishable by up to two years in prison and a $4,000 fine.

At approximately 1:35 a.m. Jan. 1, Mitchell police received a report of a stolen vehicle from the 200 block of North Lawler Street that had been left running with the doors unlocked. Court documents state Gonzalez “bragged” on Facebook about taking a vehicle from behind a bar and driving it home that same night.

The vehicle was found near Longfellow Elementary School. The vehicle owners found Gonzalez’s driver’s license in the vehicle a few days later.

Security footage from the area showed Gonzalez entering the car, and during a police interview on Jan. 24, Gonzalez allegedly told police she took the car because it was too cold to walk home from the bar.
