DOVER City officials are considering applying for a grant through the Ohio Department of Transportation's Municipal Bridge Program to replace a bridge over Goettge Run on E. 20th Street near Tremont Street.
"ODOT does the inspections for us now, and it was recommended that we look into replacement on it," Service Director David Douglas said following Monday's City Council meeting.
"It's not a real major bridge, but we want to keep it in good shape and want to replace it if we can," he said. "If we can get the funding, that's great."
The grant would cover 95 percent of the cost of replacing the bridge.
Douglas said he did not have an estimate on the cost, but that information will be available by the next council meeting.
The deadline to apply for the grant is March 1.
Douglas also told council that two crews are out daily patching potholes throughout the city.
"They're doing the best they can," he said. He encouraged residents to contact the Service Department if they see a pothole that needs to be patched.
In other business, Mayor Richard Homrighausen requested that a committee assignment be made for the purpose of studying and making a recommendation on construction of a north end satellite fire station with a police field office. The money would come for a fund established for that purpose. If any additional funds are needed, they will come from the ambulance fund.
Council will meet as a committee of the whole at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 19 to discuss the satellite fire station.
The mayor also announced that the Police Department will be holding entrance examinations on Saturday. All applications to sit for the exam are due by 4 p.m. Wednesday at the mayor's office. The Fire Department will be holding entrance examinations on Feb. 26. All applications to sit for the exam are due at noon Feb. 19 at the mayor's office.
