Former Mayor Ed Rendell has an important message for one of his successors: Yo, Mayor Kenney, why aren’t you holding the Eagles parade on Tuesday?!
Rendell told us that he “would have loved to see the parade on Tuesday, when we’re still in the moment.” The Kenney administration has announced that the parade will take place on Thursday instead.
“By Thursday, I think we will be emotionally spent,” said Rendell. “I hope not. Maybe not.”
Perhaps Rendell has a point: After all, our faces already hurt from smiling so much. (Just kidding. We’ll never get sick of that. Ever.) Regardless, Rendell isn’t alone. Others said on Twitter that the parade should take place Tuesday:

There's actually a lot of speculation on which day would be best for the parade. I vote for Tuesday, but city/Eagles may not have enough time to get it together by then.

Rendell also noted that he ran into two Eagles fans today who, way back in October, booked a hotel for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday — but not Thursday.
“They wanted to be downtown for the parade,” he said. “And they reserved it in October! Can you imagine what a leap of faith that was?”
The Kenney administration said it isn’t possible to hold the parade on Tuesday, though. “The fact that the entire Eagles organization did not return from Minneapolis until this afternoon made it unfeasible to stage the event on Tuesday,” said mayoral spokesman Mike Dunn.
Plus, Dunn said, the city is hosting “more than than a parade.” It will be “a spectacular celebration that you’ll hear more about tomorrow. The amount of planning and preparation involved is significant, and we’re certain that once the governor sees what we have planned, he’ll understand.”
Kenney is expected to provide more details about the parade at a press conference on Tuesday. He is also planning to deliver his annual address to the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia tomorrow. Dunn said that event had nothing to do with the city’s decision on parade timing.
Phew. Imagine the city’s progressive mayor delaying the parade for our underdog heroes to hang with business big shots!
Oh, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that Rendell took part in one of the more, ahem, well-known moments in the history of Eagles fandom. He was one of the people who booed Santa Claus at a game in 1968. “He was the worst-looking Santa Claus I ever saw,” Rendell said. “They put him up on the sled, I guess they must have paid him something, and carted him around. And everyone, myself included, threw snowballs at Santa.”
