Driver slams into Minnesota office building during apparent medical emergency
A truck went through a business building on Bemidji Avenue and 11th Street Northwest on Monday evening. Police said more information would be released on the accident on Tuesday morning. (Jillian Gandsey | Bemidji Pioneer)BEMIDJI - A person who appeared to have a medical emergency was rushed to the hospital after apparently driving a truck into a financial advisory office Monday evening on the 10000 block of Bemidji Avenue.
Neighbors who live immediately across 11th Street Northwest from the office said they heard the crash at about 6:40 p.m., then saw a woman open the truck’s door and call 911. A pair of tracks plowed through their yard indicate the truck narrowly avoided their home before it struck the building.
Bemidji Police Chief Mike Mastin said in a news release late Monday that the driver of the truck, who was the only occupant, “appeared to have suffered a medical emergency which resulted in the crash.” Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, Mastin said.
A woman inside the building suffered minor injuries and was also taken to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center for treatment, the release said.
The truck was removed about an hour later, and firefighters on scene covered the hole it left with plywood.
More information about the crash is expected to be released Tuesday morning.
In addition to the fire department, the Bemidji Police Department and Bemidji Ambulance were among the agencies responding.
