Airline succumbing to external pressures

I could not agree more with Mr Peter Loon (SIA headed the wrong direction; Feb 3).

Singapore Airlines is supposed to be one of the top airlines for business class.

But on a recent business-class flight to Bangkok, I found this not to be the case.

Service was not altogether bad, but compared to what it was 10 years ago, it was very poor.

SIA had set a very high bar and is struggling to meet it now. There is inconsistency in service from crew to crew.

It seems like SIA is succumbing to the pressure of a less-than-robust economy, competition from budget airlines, and bean counters.

Cheap tricks like the credit card charge and auto-inclusion of insurance fees erode the brand. SIA is already charging a premium over most other airlines. It is sad to see it succumb to these budget-airline type tricks.

As a Singaporean, I hope SIA will remember its roots and go back to providing the best services and planes. That is what made it successful and what will keep it successful.
