Enjoy the relatively uneventful weather while it lasts.
Days after a major winter storm dropped up to a foot of snow in Billings and as much as 2 feet elsewhere in southern Montana, the National Weather Service expects 6 to 12 inches of new accumulation is throughout the region beginning Thursday morning.
Scattered snow showers are likely in Billings Tuesday, with less than 1 inch of accumulation expected. The high is forecast to be 25 degrees, with an overnight low of 15.
Wednesday will be warmer, with temperatures expected to rise into the lower 40s. Freezing temperatures overnight could produce slick road surfaces by Thursday morning, said Joe Lester, a meteorologist with the NWS office in Billings.
"That definitely will cause some icing, and then we'll start putting snow on top of that" Thursday morning, Lester said.
Temperatures are expected to plummet Thursday morning as a cold front of Arctic air moves in from the north. Overnight lows around zero degrees are possible in the region, with wind chills dipping to around 10 to 20 below zero Thursday night.
As of Tuesday morning, the weather agency expects 6 to 8 inches of snowfall from Thursday through Saturday morning in Billings. Heavy snow could begin falling in areas north and northeast of the city as early as Wednesday, with up to a foot projected for Roundup, Forsyth and the Judith Gap area.

- Livingston: 1.5 to 3 inches

- Roundup: 12 inches
- Sheridan: 5 to 8 inches
