Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., on Monday took another shot at President Trump after Trump called him "one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington" on Twitter.

"Bottomline is I think it may be time for Gen. Kelly to give the president a time out. The country would certainly benefit from that anyway," Schiff told CNN, referring to the White House chief of staff.

Trump earlier tweeted that "Little Adam Schiff," "who is desperate to run for higher office," "leaves closed committee hearings to illegally leak confidential information."

"Must be stopped!" Trump continued on social media.

Schiff added he didn't know how to interpret Trump saying that he should be "stopped."

"It's often hard to understand the president's tweets," Schiff said, before joking that the "Little" nickname was an improvement upon the "Sleazy" moniker Trump assigned him in July.

Schiff's initially slammed Trump on Twitter Monday for his "false smears."

"Mr. President, I see you’ve had a busy morning of ‘Executive Time,’” Schiff wrote, in reference to Trump’s time alone in the White House residence.

Schiff has recently been at loggerheads with House Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee after a memo, drafted by Chairman Devin Nunes' staff and detailing alleged surveillance abuses by the FBI and DOJ under the Obama administration, was released to the public.

Schiff serves as the top Democrat on the intel panel.
