THE majority of firms in the Westgate Centre are not yet being pursued for business rates payments.

Just eleven out of the 91 businesses in the £440m centre have been assessed and given a rateable value despite it being open for more than three months.

Those eleven firms are currently being chased for payments.

The city council's board member for finance, Ed Turner, said he had been given assurances that the remaining businesses would be on the rating list by the end of March.

He added - at a meeting of full council - that business rates for the whole centre were estimated at £11m.
