A few days after India's first lady detective, Rajani Pandit, was arrested by the Thane police, cops have widened their probe to know whether she was part of a nexus involved in blackmailing and extortion.
Pandit was arrested during police probe into Call Details Record (CDR), in which six more detectives are under arrest for acquiring telephonic conversation records illegally for sale to clients for a price.
"We are probing it from various angles....we are trying to find out the roles of some policemen," Thane Police Commissioner Parambir Singh said.
Pandit (54), daughter of a former police officer, has written two books - Faces Behind Faces and Mayajal. She is the subject of a documentary film made by director-writer Dinkar Rao, titled "Lady James Bond".
Police officials involved in the investigations said "we are not leaving the matter as yet".
"Detailed investigations are on. We want to know with whom the lady was in touch as part of professional duties," police officials said, adding that they are also probing the phone directories of all the suspects in the case. "Besides, the major issue is how these CDRs are obtained, the role of telecom service providers and police," the officials added.
The officials are also planning to speak to the people whose CDRs were compromised - whether they were blackmailed or was money extorted.
