A woman advocate practicing at Delhi High Court was allegedly assaulted by three people near the Max Mueller Marg at the India International Centre (IIC), police said on Monday.
Despite lodging a written complaint at the Tughlaq Road police station on January 20, a day after the incident, police registered an FIR on February 1. No arrest has been made so far in this connection, said sources.
As per the advocate's complaint, her car accidentally brushed a Mercedes Benz, the occupants of the car came out and jumped on the advocate's car bonnet, when she tried to drive the car away, one of the men punched her. She claimed that the police only took cognizance of her complaint 12 days after the incident.
Confirming the incident, B K Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) said, “The woman advocate had parked her car in front of IIC. At about 9.45 PM, her car just brushed the other car, a Mercedes, while reversing, foolowing which a one person came out the car and started abusing her, shouting and blocking her way by standing in front of the car and grabbing into steering wheel.
Her written complaint submitted at the Tughlaq Road police station states, “I was reversing the car when it touched the Mercedes Benz. The occupants of the Benz got down and misbehaved with me and my friend. One of the men climbed on the bonnet of my car, I shouted for help and around a dozen people gathered at the spot but they stood as mute spectators and didn't do anything, I tried to drive the car but was punched by the accused. Somehow I managed to drive but the man on bonnet did not get down. He fell down when the car reached the main road”, she said .
“Following her complaint, a case has been registered under IPC sections 341and 509. The details of the accused are not known yet,” said a police officer of New Delhi district.
