DMP bans procession on Feb 8 over Khaleda verdict

DHAKA: To ensure public safety, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed ban on procession, carrying sharp weapons and explosives in the capital on February 8 centering BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s verdict in a corruption case.

The decision was made based on intelligence reports of subversive activities to be carried out on the day court will deliver its verdict. 

DMP commissioner, Asaduzzaman Mia, issued the directive on Tuesdau in accordance with the powers conferred under section 28 and 29 of the DMP Ordinance.
  
The ban will take effect from 4:00am on Feb 8.

Earlier on January 25, a Dhaka court fixed Feb 8 to deliver the verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and five others.
