Two area plants recently announced that they're closing, leaving hundreds of workers without jobs.
Gold'n Plump in Luverne closed its doors at the end of last year.
Molded Fiber Glass in Aberdeen plans to close sometime this year, meaning hundreds of workers in the Hub City could also be looking for new jobs.
A Sioux Falls group is encouraging those employees to come to the state's largest city.
Grand Prairie Foods is cooking up a lot of business these days. You may not have heard of the Sioux Falls company, but chances are you've eaten its food.
"We make items for the convenience industry, for food service and schools," owner Valerie Loudenback said.
The food manufacturer has added 85 employees in six years. Loudenback says she almost always has an opening.
"We just brought a department in house last week," Loudenback said.
With the area's low unemployment rate, Sioux Falls businesses such as Grand Prairie Foods are struggling more to find enough workers.
"Everybody is hiring some sort of position," Jennifer Tuttle said.
Tuttle is the Manager of Workforce Development for the Sioux Falls Development Foundation. The organization is targeting people in Luverne and Aberdeen with social media ads.
"It's easier to keep within the Midwest. People usually like to keep within a couple of hours from where they're from," Tuttle said.
Midwest employees who could find a new work home at this growing business, Grand Prairie.
"We like to provide opportunities to individuals to have a good living and be part of a good working team," Loudenback said.
A team that could soon add players from Luverne and Aberdeen.
