Sonu Nigam is in danger from fundamentalist groups for his rant against azaan, gets Police protection

Sonu Nigam is in danger. Last year, he stirred up a hornet’s nest when he talked about Azaan. He had tweeted, “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India” Of course, people on Twitter took great offence against it and Fatwas were issued on his name. In fact, a Maulvi from West Bengal declared that anyone who can shave off Nigam’s head, will be rewarded with Rs 10 lac. The singer didn’t wait for anyone else to that but got it done himself and even asked for the money. You would assume all this chaos was enough to settle this matter but turns out it’s not. Apparently, his life is under threat.

Reports suggest that Maharashtra’s Intelligence Department has alerted Mumbai Police about a possible threat to Sonu Nigam’s life. It is said that fundamentalist groups are plotting against him. Times Now mentions that the group might attack the singer any place and anytime. Guess that prompted Mumbai Police to beef up his security. Sonu hadn’t stopped at just one tweet but continued further. He had also posted, “And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison? I don’t believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don’t follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True? Gundagardi hai bus…” When reactions went against him with many slamming and threatening him, he went ahead and posted, “Dear everyone. Your stand exposes your own IQ. I stand by my statement that loudspeakers should not be allowed in Mosques & Temples. Period.” (Also read: After Sonu Nigam, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi sparks outrage on Twitter with her Azaan rant)

Well, all that has put Sonu Nigam’s life in danger.
