Simon & Garfunkel's Paul Simon announces farewell tour

has announced his retirement from live performances after his upcoming tour, Homeward Bound - The Farewell Tour. The 76-year-old declared his decision to hang up his boots in a statement on "I've often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I'd consider bringing my performing career to a natural end.

Now I know: it feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating and something of a relief... "After this coming tour, I anticipate doing the occasional performance in a (hopefully) acoustically pristine hall, and to donate those earrings to various philanthropic organisations, particularly thsoe whose objective is to save the planet, ecologically," Simon said. The one-half of the duo, Simon & Garfunkel, said his the death of their lead guitarist, in December last year was a "contributing factor" in his decision. "Mostly, though, I feel the travel and tyime away from my wife and family takes a toll that detracts from the joy of playing," he added. The legendary artiste thanked his fans for showering their love on him over the last 50 years and he "thinks about constantly". "I love making music, my voice is still strong, and my band is a tight, extraordinary group of gifted musicians..." he added.
