It has been widely reported that Mercedes-AMG is working on a mid-range A 35 variant of the all-new A-Class hatchback. These new photos from our spies now reveal that a sedan version is on its way as well.
The A 35 Sedan, when it debuts, will take its position beneath the range-topping A 45, similar to what will happen for the hatchback. However, don’t expect an A 35 sedan to be unveiled soon, seeing how the standard A-Class Sedan isn’t even out yet.
This is evident by what we see on this test mule, most notably the curious-looking pair of exhausts around back. Compared to those on an A 35 hatchback prototype seen in the past, there’s still plenty to be done in terms of model development.
As for the rest of the car, it appears to share a lot in common with the hatchback. From these photos, you can see the prominent front air intakes, a lower ride height and beefy brakes partly covered by placeholder wheels.
Under the bonnet, the A 35 will likely pack a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with around 300 hp, so as not to encroach into the A 45’s territory. Competition will come in the form of the Audi S3 and Volkswagen Golf R.

This is good. Many of us find the A45 too powerful. The A35 would cater to people like us who prefer not so much power
