Old turmeric loses ₹1,000/quintal

Old turmeric lost ₹1,000 a quintal in 20 days. Turmeric farmers are much worried due to the decline in prices. The decline is mainly due to the non-receipt of the upcountry demand for the spice.

The arrival of new turmeric is slowly improving. On Tuesday 700 bags arrived for sale. But, the price of the new turmeric also decreased by ₹200 a quintal and sold. 2,100 bags was arrived, of this 55 per cent was sold.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, new finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,211-7,655 a quintal, root turmeric at ₹6,099-7,299. The old finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,511-8,522; root variety ₹5,239-7,322. Of the arrival of 2,338 bags, 1,333 were sold .

At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,159-7,414 a quintal; root variety at ₹5,889-6,899. 250 bags arrived for sale and the buyers purchased 139 bags.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,368-7,519 a quintal; root variety at ₹5,688-6,390. Out of 560 bags offered, 428 were sold.
