SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Yonhap) -- Ivanka Trump, the daughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, will likely travel to South Korea later this month to attend the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, CNN reported Tuesday.

Citing White House officials, CNN reported that Ivanka will lead a delegation for the closing ceremony of the Feb. 9-25 Winter Olympics, at the request of the president and the U.S. International Olympic Committee.

The U.S. Embassy in South Korea said it is working to confirm the report.

A foreign ministry official here didn't provide a clear answer, saying the Seoul government is "closely" communicating with the U.S. on issues related to trips by its people, including those planning to attend the closing ceremony.

"The U.S. is expected to make an official announcement at an appropriate time about the U.S. delegation to be sent for the closing ceremony," he said on condition of anonymity.

If confirmed, it appears to be in line with Trump's earlier promise to send a high-level delegation, including his family, to the Olympics to be held in South Korea's eastern alpine town of PyeongChang. U.S. Vice President Mike Pence is to attend its opening ceremony scheduled for Friday.
