Mansfield overpowers Taunton High in Hockomock League matchup

TAUNTON — The Taunton High boys basketball played Mansfield relatively close in an earlier game in January .

This time around, it was a different story.

The Hornets outscored the Tigers in both halves and easily cruised to a 74-54 victory in Friday night's Hockomock League matchup inside the Rabouin field house on the campus of Taunton High School.

Tyler Boulter with a game-high 22 points, including 11 in third quarter for Mansfield. Damani Scott chipped in with 15 points and Ryan Otto finished with 12 points.

Dante Law led Taunton with a team-high 12 points. John Martins added 11 and Diamond Blakely chipped in with 10 points.

Scott gave the Hornets some momentum going into halftime with a steal and loud dunk right before the break. Scott finished with 11 points in the first half followed by Boulter with nine points as Mansfield went into the locker rooms with a 37-26 lead.

The Hornets went on an 11-0 run to start the third quarter as the lead increased to 48-26.

Prince Brown (nine points) ignited the Tigers offense late in the quarter, but Boulter connected on two straight three pointers to push the lead to 23 at 54-31.

Mansfield closed the quarter with a 57-36 lead.

Samuel Hyland added five points while Scott and Khristian Conner netted four each in the final stanza to keep Taunton at bay in the fourth quarter.

With the victory, the Hornets improved to 11-1 in the league and 15-2 overall.

Taunton falls to 6-6 in the league and 10-7 overall.
