Amitabh Kant gets 1-year extension as Niti Aayog CEO

NEW DELHI: Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has been given an extension till June 30 next year. Kant, a 1980 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, was appointed CEO of the think tank set up by the Modi government to replace the Planning Commission on February 17, 2016 on a two-year term.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved extension of Kant's tenure till June 30, 2019, an official order said. Before taking over as CEO of National Institution for Transforming India (Niti Aayog), he was secretary, department of industrial policy and promotion.
