Monday's snow may not have been a welcome sight for many drivers, but for some in western South Dakota, the extra moisture is welcomed.
Another day in KELOLAND, another day of passing snow. That’s been the pattern over the last several days.
But western South Dakota and the Black Hills have had several rounds of snow and the moisture is a pleasant sight.
The latest drought monitor, which is from last Thursday, still shows a Severe drought over western SD.
But over the last 3 days, the Black Hills has received a quarter to over three quarters of an inch of moisture on top of the snow that was already on the ground.
That snow will melt and help fill up those rivers and streams this spring.
It’s the area just to the east of the Black Hills that is still in a Severe drought and they have missed out on the latest rounds of snow.
Over the last 3 days, that area has only received a few hundredths of an inch, which would be cause for concern if that aren’t able to catch up on some moisture over the next few months.
Now there is still plenty of winter left with more snow expected this week so there is still time to catch up before the heat of summer kicks in.
