Bail set at $250,000 for suspect in Dover stabbing

NEW PHILADELPHIA Joshua E. Barron, 37, of 6385 Columbia Road NW, Dover, has been charged with felonious assault in connection with the stabbing of a 30-year-old New Philadelphia man early Saturday in Dover.

Barron appeared by video Monday morning in New Philadelphia Municipal Court, where Judge Nanette DeGarmo VonAllman set his bail at $250,000. He is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Thursday for a preliminary hearing. His case is expected to be bound over to the Tuscarawas County Grad Jury.

He is currently being held in the Tuscarawas County jail.

According to Dover police Detective Capt. Chad Mowrer, the victim was stabbed in a parking lot in the 200 block of N. Tuscarawas Ave. Police were notified of the crime at 2:59 a.m. by a woman who said she was taking the victim to Union Hospital. He was stabilized and flown by helicopter to an Akron hospital, where he was in stable condition Monday.

Mowrer said police found the suspect after the incident with help from New Philadelphia police, the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office and their tracking dog.

Felonious assault is a second-degree felony carrying a penalty of two to eight years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000.
