Personnel of North division of tiger reserve Palamu rescued two male barking deer in Latehar’s Barwadeeh. This is the third barking deer to be rescued in a span of two months time in PTR.
Confirming this AK Mishra deputy director North division PTR said the two rescued male barking deer are in good health and have been put on milk feeding. He said the rescued barking deer would not be sent to Birsa Zoo in Ranchi rather they would be lodged in Sambar enclosure in Bareysarn where is already one rescued female barking deer and with this two male one it will be a happy combination.
Sources said these two male ones walked down in Barwadeeh along with the goats of the villagers. The villagers were most protective of these two and this forced the PTR officials not to harass people under whose care and custody these two were for the last couple of days.
Sources said North division has more record of rescuing wild life than the South division.
Mishra on the other hand maintained that rescue of stray wild life is done in both the divisions but it is North division now which has taken the lead.
He said, “When I was in the buffer zone which is South division there used to be rescue of wild life and now I am in North division it is again here with a basic point that I have asked my staff to rescue wild life without bothering if the rescued ones survive or die as staff fear that in the event of death of rescued wild life the onus of responsibility will be fixed on the person who had so rescued. This fear is more evident on the back of mind of the staff of the South division than the North one.”
