Sir — En route to gifting India its fourth World Cup, the Indian cricket team has conquered everything that came its way without giving an inch. Their unbeaten streak of victories was punctuated with supreme confidence and sublime style. The Indian team, was undoubtedly the favourites in the run up to the final as they had five players with first class experience, but the way they delivered in the final was a treat.
The likes of Prithvi Shaw, Manjot Kalra, Shubman Gill are here to stay. So are Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ishan Porel, Shivam Mavi, not to mention Anukul Roy and Shiva Singh. The Indian Premier League is beckoning quite a few players and the chance to share the dressing rooms with greats of the game should stand them in good stead.
As coach, legendary Rahul Dravid said later, the present crop of Indian under-19 players may be destined for something more special in the days ahead and, therefore, they need to keep their feet firmly grounded. Dravid should know well because he was an epitome of patience and perseverance, discipline and dedication during his playing days. His ability to spot talent and no-nonsense approach has commanded respect. His personality is eminently suited to coach budding cricketers by a careful cultivation of players and one hopes he continues to coach the team unless he has other plans.
